I am not so sure of the cause-and-effect theory you just shared with us…
The same argument could go for the left; there’s almost an alliance between the left and anything that is anti-American in this country, at times, (which irritates the shit out of me). To become so disillusioned with the country, GOP, DNC, to turn a blind eye to nuance and become absolute lefty and have an almost sympathizing attitude towards, terrorists as an example given (calling them militants or the oppressed) and casting your vote accordingly (Ralph Nader, or to get those evil republicans out, vote Kerry), smacks of the same behavior of the people you call religious fanatics and losers…
So the comment seems a bit judgmental and simplistic to me.
I don't think it's fair to label these people as "losers" or characterize them this way because they, supposedly, could not handle whatever cards life might have dealt them and are currently voting in a way or ways that doesn't/don't agree with you.
As a democrat the video spoke to me, because it confirmed once again, how we, democrats, continue to fail in communicating how the current (or any Republican, save for Teddy Roosevelt) administration is hurting the middle class and lower. The failure of the DNC in gathering votes at grassroots levels is not the fault because of people and their religious convictions; it's the failure to respond effectively and in a decisive, short but sweet manner to cultural war tactics that Republicans use in tactful and effective ways; it’s the apparent inability and/or unwillingness to match values in a culturally sensitive manner.
We (democrats) are not organized and don’t unite in the same way the republicans do; we have a lot to learn.
