Ik heb hier ergens een Amish-kookboek liggen, maar er nog niet ingekeken........... Je mag hem wel lenen! (ophalen in Kaatsheuvel)
Ik heb 'm even voor je gepakt; volgens de introduction is hun kookstijl "plain, wholesome and hearty". Ik zal even een stukje quoten (in het Engels):
"Like the people themselves, Amish cuisine is plain, wholesome and hearty. Many recipes trace their origins to German traditional cooking, while others represent early American farm fare. Grains such as wheat, rye, corn and barley are major crops. The region also ranks high in the production of eggs and dairy cattle, poultry, vegetables and apples. The Pennsylvania Dutch cooks are renown for their family style cooking, enhanced by an abundance of fresh-picked produce along with such delicacies as chicken pot pie, sauerbraten, schnitz un knepp (ham with apples and dumplings); speck un kraut (pork and sauerkraut); scrapple; sweet and sour beets; potato soup; applesauce with cake and shoo-fly pie."
