Nederlander Bernadina is geen lang leven beschoren in zijn eerste MLB optreden.
Bernadina, 24, batted .125 (5-for-40) and scored two runs in 10 games with the Nationals. Bernadina, who acknowledged he was disappointed by the demotion, was told by the team he has to shorten his swing. With his speed, the Nationals also would like him to bunt more often.
During his time in the big leagues, Bernadina bunted only three times. Washington manager Manny Acta felt Bernadina wanted to show the team he belonged by swinging the bat.
"I got myself out all day long," Bernadina said. "You are never happy when they send you down. I want to stay, but that's part of the business. Things were not going well. My swing was too long, and that's why they sent me down."
